Schmidt joined Smiths Group in 2006 as Vice President, Government Relations, and has more than 20 years experience in government and industry. Kevin served as a professional staff member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) where he was the program monitor for the Department of Homeland Security among other duties. He later served as a presidential appointee to the Department of Homeland Security Office of Legislative Affairs with responsibility for supporting Intelligence and Operations.
Vice President of Government Relations, Rapiscan Systems, an OSI Company
As Vice President of Government Relations for OSI Systems, Mr. King is responsible for government outreach in support of OSI’s Security Divisions - Rapiscan Detection, and Rapiscan | AS&E Cargo Scanning & Solutions; the Medical Division - Spacelabs Healthcare, and the Optoelectronics Manufacturing Division. OSI Systems is a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of specialized electronic systems and components for critical applications in homeland security, healthcare, defense, aerospace, and other industrial markets.
Prior to joining OSI Systems, Mr. King was with Airbus Group where he represented their products and services with U.S. Government Agencies including the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the United States Congress. While at Airbus, Mr. King was instrumental in supporting the U.S. Army’s UH-72 Lakota helicopter program, and related special mission equipment packages for National Guard aircraft that directly supported CBP’s border security mission.
Mr. King also served as Director of Government Relations for United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in Washington, DC. During his tenure with UTC, Mr. King successfully advocated on behalf of UTC’s major defense aerospace and security programs including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter engine program, and the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter program utilized by nearly all DOD & DHS agencies.
Mr. King is a retired Master Army Aviator with over 3000 flight hours in both rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft, and he possesses an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license with a type-rating in the Gulfstream GIII jet. He also served as a DOD Congressional Fellow in the House of Representatives and as a DOD Legislative Liaison for over six years.
Mr. King holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (BBA) from Georgia State University, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Troy University, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Webster University. He is also a graduate of the Air War College.
